WHAT IS BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY?

Historically, the word bou·doir | ˈbü-ˌdwär |; French: [bu. dwaʁ] referred to a woman’s dressing room, bedroom, or private sitting room. That place was her queendom where her own rules applied, and her secrets remained safe. Similarly, in the world of photography the genre of boudoir can be described as intimate, sensual and private subjected to client’s own level of comfort and personal wishes.

My Boudoir Philosophy

What is boudoir, and what can it do FOR YOU? In my books, boudoir is a very powerful, passionate, and sensual photographic genre. In it, not only do YOU EXIST, but you also become the very center of the artwork, its model, co-creator, and the muse that inspires it. WHY BOUDOIR? Why would you and I do such a thing? Because you’ve had your share of societal BS, and you are so ready to break free from all that: role-assigning, condescending, always judging, objectifying, impossibly demanding and diminishing standards that are always weighing you down, always ready to show you your every flaw and imperfection. But you’ve had enough, and you are ready to break out of this prison. To become someone who is at peace with their body and their mind, who feels good in their own God-given skin, seeing uniqueness where society sees flaws. Showing love and care to the only body you’ve got in this lifetime. And I am so there to whisk you away from what you were taught to believe, and to get you to the other side of this transformation. To show you the new you that you probably haven’t met yet, through the affectionate and adoring lens of my camera as if it were through your lover’s eyes. To me, a boudoir session is not just a one-day event, or ‘experience’, but so much more than that. It is often a part of the long process of healing, opening up, regaining your self-value, establishing an emotional and physical connection with another human being, or with your inner self that is based on love and trust.

HOW DOES A BOUDOIR SESSION WORK?

First Phone Call

After you fill out the contact form, we set up a time for a no-obligation phone consultation to discuss your hopes and your ‘why?’ for the session, go over the process, review the pricing, and answer your questions. If you decide to book with us, you pay a session retainer fee while on the call, and we get your photoshoot day on our calendar right there and then!

Wardrobe & Session Prep

We’ve got you covered, and we have a plan how make it a stress-free and enjoyable experience for you. Expect a series of emails from us to help you prepare for your photoshoot with ‘what to bring?’, styling, shopping, and grooming tips. We will work on your mood board and shoot concept. If desired, wardrobe consultation can be scheduled.

Photoshoot Day

This day is dedicated to you, and only you, – the celebrity, the model, the muse. First, one of our hair and makeup stylists extraordinaire gets to work their magic to highlight your natural beauty to match the concept of your session style. After your photoshoot, you leave the studio on cloud nine, looking and feeling like you are ready to conquer the world!

Ordering Appointment

This is easily our clients’ favorite part of the day. Yes, that’s right, – you are going to see your images, choose your products, and place your order the very same day of your photoshoot! Together, we select your favorite images from the session, and finalize your order from the variety of our fun, exciting, and highly curated product options.

We will communicate through a series of emails containing helpful information and tips to get you ready for your big day, and to help you get the most out of your photoshoot. And if you have additional questions or need more help preparing, we are always only a message or a phone call away! We will make sure that you are well informed and, of course, pampered. Photographs

During your session, I sometimes take as many as 250 or more photographs, so that the final selection of images chosen for your ordering appointment includes a great variety.

Hours

On the day of your shoot, we get to spend two to three hours together (no hurry!) to ensure that everything from your look to your images is absolutely perfect.

Outfits

I always suggest bringing four or more different outfits to your session. That way we are not limited in our choices and can create as many looks as time and our imagination allow.

Disclaimer: yes, seeing your stunning images for the first time during your ordering appointment can make your eyes teary. And sometimes we do cry happy tears together…

Frequently Asked Questions

I have good news for you! Every client I have photographed has said the same thing, – before their session… You don’t have to be a model to look breathtakingly beautiful in your pictures, or feel great about your boudoir session. All I need is you and my camera to make you fall in love with every inch of your imperfectly perfect body.

You don’t need to! It’s not your job to take gorgeous pictures, – it’s our job, and we are really really good at it! We will work with you to guide, direct and demonstrate everything to you so that you know exactly what to do. In fact, you will be surprised at how well you do it with our help and how great it ends up looking on camera. And, once you feel confident (and you will, we promise!), you are going to own each and every pose. We guarantee it.

Most of the ‘non-models’ are, and that’s totally normal. Leave it to me to make sure that after your glam prep and outfit styling you feel so excited that you can’t wait to get in front of my camera!

We prefer to have you all to ourselves for the duration of your session, so that you can have our undivided attention and love. Your company are welcome to drop you off at the studio. Then they will leave you in our hands for your photoshoot and ordering appointment, but they are welcome to come back to pick you up at the end of your big day.

Your trust is extremely important to us. We will never post your images without obtaining a signed release from you. Due to the delicate and intimate nature of your photos, we fully respect your right to privacy. Rest assured, you decide who and how sees your images.

No worries! As part of your photo session preparation we will provide you with every bit of helpful information, including wardrobe that will be planned depending on your personal session concept. We will discuss what will look best on you and where to find it.

Based on your type, we will have suggestions for the style of your session. Together we choose the concept that speaks to you and makes you excited. Our hair and makeup artist extraordinaire will then skilfully create your image according to our chosen concept.

I will go over everything with you and provide you with pricing information during our first phone call. How much you decide to invest is totally up to you. You buy only what you love, and if you have to have everything (and that happens often!), and need financing, we can help you apply for Affirm, or create a custom in-house payment plan.
